Why we built Phone Pause

It started with a pattern that’s probably familiar: “just five more minutes,” at midnight, for the third night in a row. The phone was never the problem — the lack of a reliable off switch was.

We looked for an app that would simply lock us out, on our own schedule, without needing an account, a subscription, or a data-sharing agreement to do it. We couldn’t find one we liked, so we built it.

The principle behind Phone Pause

Phone Pause is built around a simple idea: friction, when you choose it yourself, is a feature. Willpower runs out around 11 PM. A schedule doesn’t.

That’s why Phone Pause ships with four ways to create that friction:

  • Quick Lock — for the moments you need to disappear right now.
  • Smart Lock — auto-locks once your screen-on time crosses a threshold you set.
  • Lock Until — lock until a specific time, no counting required.
  • Scheduled Locks — recurring locks for bedtime, deep work, or anything in between.

What’s next

Phone Pause is live on Android today, with 27 languages and full light/dark theme support. It’s also the first of several products we plan to build under Elevate Life Soft — all guided by the same question: does this genuinely give someone their time back?

If you’ve felt the “just five more minutes” pattern too, we built this one for you.
